LAGreen and BanBif Announce Landmark Issuance of Peru’s first Subordinated Green Bonds
The LAGreen Fund, in collaboration with the Peruvian Banco Interamericano de Finanzas (BanBif), proudly announces the completion of the first subordinated green bond issued.

LAGreen Fund, the first green bond fund for Latin America and the Caribbean, proudly announces its investment in Costa Rica’s first blue bond, issued by Banco Nacional de Costa Rica (BN).
LAGreen invests in Banco Promerica Guatemala’s Sustainable Bond
LAGreen Fund proudly announces its investment in the first thematic bond issued in the Guatemalan market. LAGreen’s subscription of USD 20 million to the Senior Sustainable Bond represents a pivotal moment for the local market as well as for Banco Promerica, as it ventures into the realm of thematic bond issuance.
Diego Stapff, Fund Director of LAGreen at Finance in Motion, shared thoughts on the state of the market at the UNEP FI’s LAC Regional Roundtable. During the event, he discussed how Latin America has a young and fast-growing green bond market that offers excellent opportunities for early movers. Diego also shared how the LAGreen fund helps to bring high quality bonds into the market, supporting as anchor investor and providing technical assistance.
Through its first investment in a green bond, the LAGreen Fund will support the development of sustainable construction to foster green practices in Costa Rica. The LAGreen TAF is supporting transparency practices by supporting the bank’s impact strategy.
The LAGreen Fund and Operadora de Servicios Mega strengthened their commitment to promoting sustainability bonds in Mexico. In May 2022, LAGreen supported Mega’s MXN 3,000 million publicly listed sustainable bond by subscribing MXN 506 million and is providing ongoing technical assistance to support post-issuance activities related to the bond.
LAGreen invested USD 10 million in a sustainable bond issued by Banco de Bogotá. Bond proceeds are dedicated to promoting projects with positive environmental and social impacts, while strengthening the bank’s capital base. Through this bond, the bank will further fulfil its sustainability commitments, for example, in terms of decarbonizing its portfolio.
LAGreen partnered with IDB Group in a landmark COP 640 billion SLB issued by Bancolombia. This groundbreaking bond combines an environmental and a social objective: reducing the bank’s portfolio carbon intensity and providing financing to over 1.5 million low-income people. LAGreen TAF will support in strengthening the bank’s circular economy strategy across sectors.
LAGreen teamed up with the UNEPFI to promote capital market financing for green and social project investments in Latin America. The partners have launched a series of capacity building programs on green, social, sustainability, and securities-based lending bonds addressed to the banking sectors across the region.
The LAGreen TAF partnered with the CBI and Metrix Finanzas to develop a thorough report on the state of the sustainable finance market in the country. The report analyzed the behavior of Green, Social, Sustainable and Sustainability-Linked Bonds in Colombia and mapped the main stakeholders.
The LAGreen Fund has participated in multiple events across the region, including the Green Bonds Regional Roundtable in Dominican Republic, FEPMAC Road Show in Peru, the Climate Bonds Initiative’s Regional Seminar CONNECT in Mexico among others.
